Press release: REAL actions instead of artificial numbers

Dear Delegates,

On the behalf of the industries providing more than 80% of the global primary energy consumption. We would like to express our concerns about the press release from the ENGOs earlier today (http://engobarca.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/fossil-energy-over-subsidized-and-economic-non-sense/). We do not want to comment on posts based on sources like Wikipedia and environmental websites funded by Renewables Associations. Contrary, we would like to recommend to ENGOs to focus on the ongoing debate of finding feasible solutions concerning the global warming. By feasible we imply to take strong actions considering the increasing global energy demand, the need of eradicating global poverty and the benefits that fossil fuel industries bring to local communities.

We would like to express our willingness to contribute for climate change mitigation by implementing innovative technologies to improve energy efficiency. To illustrate we can mention that modernizing old generation coalfired power plants can result in 25% less emissions. Moreover, if the implementation happens on a global scale this can save more emissions compared to the first phase of the Kyoto Protocol. Similarly, according to the European commission the wider implementation of CCS on European level could result in 30% emissions reduction by 2030.

As seen above, we want to offer solutions rather than playing with fake numbers. Satisfied with the significant achievements today, we look forward to work towards avoiding hazardous levels of GHG emissions tomorrow.

Best Regards,
Oil, Gas and Coal Industries
