Press release from Fossil Fuels Lobby

Dear Delegates,

Source: IEA, World Energy Outlook 2011.

The fossil fuel industries are very concerned about the agreements reached in the mitigation working group. According to the World Energy Outlook the demand for fossil fuels will increase at least until 2035. You can see on the graph below that global demand for fossil fuels  is projected to increase by 50% by 2035!Until that date the number of cars in the world is going to double. How could countries determine the year 2015 as the year of peak demand and how are they going to reduce emissions by 2050? Who is actually going to take measures??
The countries delegate should keep in mind that there are many economies largely based on exporting fossil fuels and that these economies will suffer strongly under those ambitious targets. Having in mind the globally growing demand for energy,  the fossil fuel industries rather recommend concentration on increasing energy efficiency than on decreasing absolute reductions
We would like to encourage the delegates of the countries to be realistic and take into account that decisions we take today might strenghten the global economic crisis and deepen the poverty around the globe.
