Delegates reflect on natural disaster in South Asia

An unexpected press conference was held at the Climate Change negotiations in Barcelona at 18.30 due to a tropical storm which struck southern Bangladesh earlier today. Risks to Burma and North East India have been reported  by the UN, with the total number of people to be affected in the region of 8.2 million. More information can be obtained here.
Delegates from Bangladesh, India, the US, China and Russia were asked to comment on the event in light of the difficulties in reaching an agreement on the adaptation side. The delegate from Bangladesh called out for more 'humanity' among country delegates, and for each country to 'look inside their hearts' when deciding on measures to curb the effects of climate change. India was equally emotive in its language and pleads. The US, China and Russia offered their condolences to the crisis-stricken countries, with Russia offering their western lands as settlements for the climate related refugees.
